What You’re Growing
Zebrange peppers are all about flavour and looks. The plants grow tall and highly productive, producing long, slender pods that develop striking zebra-like striping as they mature.
This variety is prized for its intense sweetness, crisp texture, and mild-to-medium heat that builds slowly and never overwhelms. It’s a favourite among growers who want something eye-catching, delicious, and versatile in the kitchen.
This pepper shines just as much fresh as it does preserved.
Heat + Best Uses
Zebrange delivers sweet heat, not burn.
The heat is gentle and balanced, letting the natural sweetness take center stage.
Best uses include:
fresh eating straight off the plant
slicing into salads or salsas
sweet-forward hot sauces
pickling for colour and crunch
drying for sweet, aromatic flakes
It adds flavour, colour, and sweetness without overpowering spice.
How to Grow Zebrange in Ontario/Canada
Zebrange grows very well in Canadian conditions with a proper indoor start.
1) Start seeds indoors
Start seeds 8–10 weeks before last frost (late March–April in much of Ontario).
Use seed-starting mix and provide strong light once sprouted.
2) Transplant timing
Transplant outdoors only after frost risk is gone and nights stay warm.
Harden off seedlings over 7–10 days.
3) Sun + soil
Full sun is ideal for sweetness and colour development.
Use rich, well-draining soil and water consistently.
4) Give it space
Plants grow tall and productive.
Large containers or in-ground planting both work well.
Light staking is recommended due to heavy fruiting.
Harvest Tips
Harvest when pods show full striping and rich colour — this is peak sweetness and flavour.
Green pods are edible but much less sweet.
Frequent harvesting encourages continuous production.
