What You’re Growing
Yellow Ghost peppers combine extreme heat with a vibrant appearance. The plants grow into sturdy, bushy producers loaded with heavily wrinkled pods that ripen into a striking bright yellow.
Compared to red Ghost varieties, Yellow Ghost tends to lean more citrusy and slightly floral in flavour, making it a favourite for hot sauce makers who want intense heat with a brighter taste profile.
This is a serious superhot — beautiful on the plant, brutal on the tongue.
Heat + Best Uses
This is serious superhot heat.
Yellow Ghost peppers deliver a long-lasting, aggressive burn with a bright, citrus-fruity front end.
Best uses include:
ultra-hot sauces with a citrus profile
fermented mashes
powdering for extreme heat seasoning
small amounts in chilli, stews, or curries
drying for flakes or powder
A very small amount goes a long way.
How to Grow Yellow Ghost in Ontario/Canada
Superhot peppers require patience and a strong indoor start for Canadian climates.
1) Start seeds indoors
Start seeds 10–12 weeks before last frost (March–early April in much of Ontario).
Use a heat mat for better germination.
Provide strong light immediately after sprouting.
2) Transplant timing
Transplant outdoors only once all frost risk is gone and nighttime temperatures remain consistently warm.
Harden off gradually over 7–10 days.
3) Sun + soil
Full sun is essential for maximum heat and pod development.
Use rich, well-draining soil and water deeply but consistently.
4) Give it space
Plants grow bushy and heavy with fruit.
Large containers or in-ground planting both work well.
Staking or cages are recommended as pods set.
Harvest Tips
Harvest when peppers turn fully bright yellow — this is when heat and flavour peak.
Green pods are edible but much milder and less aromatic.
Always wear gloves when harvesting and handling — Yellow Ghost oils are extremely potent.
