What You’re Growing
Trinidad Red peppers are for serious growers only. These plants develop into strong, bushy producers that push out aggressively wrinkled pods with a deep red finish.
This variety is all about raw power — intense, sharp heat with a classic earthy-fruity profile typical of Trinidad superhots. It’s a favourite among extreme heat lovers, hot sauce makers, and chilli collectors who want authentic Caribbean fire.
This is not a novelty pepper — it’s a weapon.
Heat + Best Uses
This is extreme heat territory.
Trinidad Red delivers an immediate, punchy burn that builds fast and lingers.
Best uses include:
superhot sauces and fermented blends
powdering for extreme heat seasoning
small amounts in chilli, stews, or marinades
infused oils or vinegars (use extreme caution)
drying for flakes or powder with serious kick
Only a small amount is needed — respect the heat.
How to Grow Trinidad Red in Ontario/Canada
Like all superhots, Trinidad Red needs time and warmth to thrive in Canada.
1) Start seeds indoors
Start seeds 10–12 weeks before last frost (March–early April in much of Ontario).
Use a heat mat for best germination results.
Provide strong, consistent light once seedlings emerge.
2) Transplant timing
Transplant outdoors only after all frost risk has passed and nighttime temperatures remain warm.
Harden off plants gradually over 7–10 days.
3) Sun + soil
Full sun is mandatory for proper pod development and heat.
Plant in rich, well-draining soil and water deeply but consistently.
4) Give it space
Plants grow bushy and can become heavy with fruit.
Large containers or in-ground planting are ideal.
Staking or cages are strongly recommended.
Harvest Tips
Harvest when peppers turn fully deep red — this is when heat and flavour are at their peak.
Green pods are edible but significantly milder and less flavourful.
Always wear gloves when harvesting or handling — Trinidad Red oils are extremely potent.
