What You’re Growing
Mustard Reaper peppers are a savage twist on the classic Carolina Reaper. The plants grow into strong, bushy producers that pump out grotesquely bumpy pods, often finished with aggressive stinger tails.
This variety delivers explosive, face-melting heat with a unique earthy, mustard-like flavour that sets it apart from red and peach Reaper types. It’s a favourite among extreme chilli growers, collectors, and hot sauce makers looking for something different — and dangerous.
This pepper looks brutal because it is.
Heat + Best Uses
This is top-tier, extreme superhot heat.
Mustard Reaper peppers hit fast, build aggressively, and linger relentlessly.
Best uses include:
ultra-hot sauces and fermented mashes
powdering for extreme heat seasoning
micro-dosing into chilli, stews, or curries
infused oils or vinegars (extreme caution)
drying for flakes or powder
Only the smallest amount is needed.
How to Grow Mustard Reaper in Ontario/Canada
Reaper varieties require patience, warmth, and a strong indoor start — especially in Canadian climates.
1) Start seeds indoors
Start seeds 10–12 weeks before last frost (March–early April in much of Ontario).
Use a heat mat for best germination rates.
Provide strong, consistent light immediately after sprouting.
2) Transplant timing
Transplant outdoors only once all frost risk is gone and nighttime temperatures stay warm.
Harden off plants gradually over 7–10 days.
3) Sun + soil
Full sun is mandatory for pod development and maximum heat.
Use rich, well-draining soil and water deeply but consistently.
4) Give it space
Plants grow bushy and heavy with fruit.
Large containers or in-ground planting are ideal.
Staking or cages are strongly recommended once pods set.
Harvest Tips
Harvest when peppers turn fully mustard yellow — this is peak heat and flavour.
Green pods are edible but significantly milder and less flavourful.
Always wear gloves when harvesting and handling — Mustard Reaper oils are extremely potent.
